Menu

The continental breakfast is always available, and is included in the price of the room.  We will try to cook all of the other dishes mentioned below from fresh.  However, if we have not received advance notice, some selections may not be available or we may use some frozen ingredients.  As we cook from scratch, only one choice of main is available each evening and needs to be ordered with half a day's notice.

Evening Menu

 
Pasta

Choose either spaghetti or penne with one of the home-made sauces below.  We use pasta made with high-quality southern Italian wheat and extruded with a bronze die for a rougher surface to which the sauce can cling better.  Served "al dente" with pecorino/parmesan/grana cheese and an optional drizzling of fresh extra virgin Taggiasca or Val di Mazara olive oil. Buon appettito!

 
Ragù - £5.50

A mixture of minced pork and beef slowly simmered with finely-chopped carrots, celery, onions, tomatoes, herbs.

 
Broccoli - £7

House version of "cime di rapa" recipe. Slowly melted anchovies, sautéed garlic, broccoli florets, white wine.

 
Salmon - £7

Garlic sautéed in butter, salmon fillet, crème fraîche.

 
Amatriciana - £5.50

Smoked streaky bacon, garlic, chili pepper.

 
Puttanesca £5.50

Anchovies, capers, garlic, dried chili pepper, black olives, tomatoes, origano.

 
Zucchini £6

Sautéed courgettes, onions, mint.

 
Pesto £7 (or £4.50 for ready-bought jar pesto)

Home-made pesto using basil, grana padano, pine nuts, extra virgin olive oil, garlic.

 
Mains
 
Salade Lyonnaise £7

Leaves, smoked streaky bacon from the local Nunhead butcher, croutons and a poached free-range egg.

 

Parmigiana di melanzane £8

Oven-baked dish of aubergines, fresh tomatoes, basil leaves, mozzarella and other cheeses.

 

Steak (rump/ribeye/sirloin, to order) £5/100g

Pan-fried and served with herb butter and red wine reduction, sautéed potatoes, and wilted spinach.

 

Rack of lamb (to order) £5/100g

Oven-ccoked with a red wine reduction, new potatoes and minted peas.

 

Turkey breast schnitzel £8

Turkey breast steak covered in egg and breadcrumbs and pan fried.  Served with sautéed potatoes and steamed green vegetables.
